Panel Discussion: Setting up a charity that supports refugees

Published by Ibrahim Rahman on

Trustee Kal Karim will join a panel discussion on setting up charities that support people from refugee backgrounds at the University of Leicester.

As part of the University’s Breaking Barriers Refugee Week, Kal will sit with Alison Birch from After18 and Catherine Gladwell of Refugee Education UK.

The three panellists will each share their stories of what prompted or inspired them to become involved in this area of work, and why they decided to take the extra step of setting up their own charities. They will explore the practicalities of doing this, and some of the challenges encountered along the way.

Kal, Alison and Catherine will delve into the differences between setting up a voluntary group and setting up a charity, in terms of practicalities and impact, and will finish by offering tips for anyone who is keen to set up their own charity or voluntary group, or who wishes to get involved and support an existing organisation.
